April 2006 News
Dear BSu Members and Friends,
Whoever penned the words "time really flies" certainly had me in mind. I hardly get the monthly news on the web site (and corrected) and it is that time again.
Time has always been important to me. I try not to waste it. I always plan to use it wisely. Time and Love are what makes the world 'go around' ... Well, I didn't
mean to become a philosopher, however time spent with you is important to me. Let's get to the April news!
We have had our share of illness this month. Micki Holder Nicol, Iona Midgett Kassner, Bessie Mae Ice Davis are all recovering from surgery and are doing well. Elaine Dickson, George Davis, and others remain in our prayers.
Elaine begins thyroid cancer treatment in Lexington KY April 3-7. I hear that Helen Ruth Dillow and Rinnie Spencer are doing fine with new knees.
I have had word that Charles Morris died March 27, 2006. Charles was a BSU member in the 50s. He and Erica were missionaries to Malaysia, Singapore, and the Phillippines. They were a wonderful couple and did a great service for the Lord!
I have made a new page (click) on the web site. A list of those BSU students who were in the Chapel Singers are listed on this new page.
Now I know I did not name them all. I tried and tried to get names. I am pleased with those whose names are listed. I will add more as new names are sent in. I think I have 115 or more.
I added two new
names to the maiden name list (click)-- Margie Phillips Shelton and Iona Midgett Kassner (note the new format for this list! Names have been alphabetized according to maiden names) This came as a suggestion
from a BSU member. I added a new address for Nina Crawford Aikman (click for directory). Nina had to relocate because of a fire that destroyed her home. That news was so sad.
Some of you can relate to that I am sure.
All corrections sent to me have been made. Later I will send you an updated list of names of those Chapel Singers who plan to sing in our "new Chapel Singers" group at our reunion. I want
to allow all the time needed to volunteer for this.
I hope you will enjoy reading the list of Chapel Singers. This activity was a real treat to many of our BSU members. Leaders like Charles Gray, Earl Morris, Eugene Quinn, and others are remembered today for their leadership. To
students who loved to sing, the Chapel Singers played a major role in their college life!!
I continue to work on the 2006 BSU Reunion. I try always to plan with you in mind. I think you will enjoy what I "have 'cookin' up for you! The Walnut Street Baptist Church is working with me on this. I am grateful for the
committee they have chosen.
I think almost anything you might want to know about our BSU work is on the web site www.bsu-siu.com. I use it nearly every day for information. I hope you do too. Please take good care of yourself. Spring will be refreshing -- Let's enjoy God's beautiful world!
Your Bsu Friend and President,
Helen Green Galloway
