Well March came in like a Lion and it left like Lamb. (Just like it was supposed to.) And, all in all it was a good month.
New things were on display --- Spring arrived on the 20th --- daylight time arrived on the 14th, and we had a holiday to celebrate --
St Patrick's Day on the 17th. I thank God for His many blessings. Now, we get to celebrate the month of April. In store for us is Easter.
This is a special Holiday for the Christians, The Resurrection is so special to us. And, we get to celebrate it on April 4th. I noticed on
my little special calendar that they have listed for April, National Humor, Cancer Control and Stress Awareness as items to promote in April.
I will plan to do all three of these!! I do hope you had a happy March and that you are ready for Spring and all of the splendor it offers us.
Every day I look for BSU news. You are faithful to report news to me. I do appreciate you. I want it even if it is old news to you. We have 244
BSU members on our mailing list. Some one out there has not heard all of the news items. (And if they have they may have forgotten by now -- a little joke.)
NOW MY APRIL NEWS ITEMS
- Hal McRaven died Feb.11,2010. He lived in Independence, Mo. He was an active BSU member in the 50's. A brother Don MCRaven is a cardiologist. He lives in Peoria. (This news came to me too late for the March news)
- Wilma Dell Springs died February 24, 2010. Wilma lived in Marion, Il. She was the wife of James Carlynn Springs. James died 11,12,2009. Their picture
is on the web site at 2001 Reunion. Look at the BSU Reunion pictures for Wilma. (While there glance at the other reunion pictures. You will enjoy)
- I had this interesting letter from Bill Berry's daughter:
Hello, I am Bill Berry's daughter. As he has been unable to check his
email, I've been doing it and printing anything important and mailing it to
him. I do want to clarify some information. Dad did not have a stroke,
but rather a seizure on Oct. 29. One of the things that can happen during
a severe seizure is posterior dislocation of the shoulder. Unfortunately
Dad suffered this dislocation of both shoulders. One was not diagnosed
until 2 months later, and the other not until 3 months later. He went home
from the rehab/nursing home on Jan. 27 and will have surgery in St. Louis
on the right shoulder March 16. The left shoulder will have to wait until
the right is usable. I urge anyone who has a family member or friend who
has a seizure to insist that the shoulders be examined, and have X-rays and
MRI's immediately. Dad complained of shoulder/arm pain constantly, but
none of his doctors or the nursing home staff took his concerns seriously,
because of his temporary disorientation (also contributed to the seizure).
Other than the shoulder problems, he's doing fine now - back to normal!
Thank you so much,
Joan Keith
- A note from Bob Barrow " I need to report a news item about Oleta Barrow (Hall). Oleta was experiencing a heavy weighted chest on 03/10/10. She called the doctor and went in for an examination. He scheduled a stress test, which the results concerned him. He scheduled an appointment with the heart doctor on Monday. A heart cath followed on Tuesday and she was admitted and scheduled for by-pass surgery on Wednesday. As of Friday she was out of ICU and into a regular room. She is doing great. Please pary for a full and speedy recovery. She will probably come home Sunday. Thanks for sharing this with our BSU'ers. Bob"
- Later:.Hi Helen, Oleta came home 03/22/10 after her heart surgery. She spent only 5 days in the hospital which included her heart cath and bypass surgery. She made remarkable recovery for which we are greteful. Thanks for your note and your prayers-- Bob
- Rinnie Spencer had surgery "Hi, I'm Shirley, Virinda's daughter. She had a problem after surgery today and became unresponsive. She is alert now, but on a ventilator in ICU. Hopefully, the ventilator will be removed tomorrow. She really doesn't like it, and I cannot say I blame her. I was to let you know how she came through the surgery. I will send more when I know more." Rinnie is doing better now. And, is home. Shirley is looking out for her. Thank you Shirley
- A note from Charlotte McKnight concerning Bill Berry: "Bill and Bessie are home from the hospital in St. Louis Another friend said her son-in-law and daughter brought them home yesterday & I knew they were supposed too. I haven't called yet because I never know when they might be resting or Bessie might be doing something for Bill If they let
him come home he must be still doing well"
- Ginger is working on the BSU Reunion. I don t know all the plans but what I saw I liked. You will too!! The date again is Sept. 23-24 at the First
Baptist Church in Vandalia IL.
I received this next article from Phyllis Toler.I thought you would like it. Enjoy!
THE POTTY
A LITTLE THREE YEAR OLD BOY IS SITTING ON THE TOILET. HIS MOTHER THINKS HE HAS BEEN IN THERE TOO LONG, SO SHE GOES IN TO SEE WHAT'S UP.
THE LITTLE BOY IS SITTING ON THE TOILET READING A BOOK. BUT ABOUT EVERY 10 SECONDS OR SO, HE PUTS THE BOOK DOWN, GRIPS ONTO TO THE TOILET SEAT WITH HIS LEFT HAND AND HITS HIMSELF ON TOP OF THE HEAD WITH HIS RIGHT HAND.
HIS MOTHER SAYS: "BILLY, ARE YOU ALL RIGHT? YOU'VE BEEN IN HERE FOR A WHILE."
BILLY SAYS: "I'M FINE, MOMMY... I JUST HAVEN'T GONE 'DOODY' YET."
MOTHER SAYS: "OK, YOU CAN STAY HERE A FEW MORE MINUTES. BUT, BILLY, WHY ARE YOU HITTING YOURSELF ON THE HEAD?"

BILLY SAYS: "WORKS FOR KETCHUP."
Have a great day!
