August 2009 News
August is our hot month here in Illinois. However, I thought we had a rather unusual July. It reached 100+ several
days during the month--then we had several days of nice cool weather. Perhaps August will not reach that 100 mark
often during these next 31 days. I celebrated my 87th birthday in a very calm manner. I still have very little energy
and I want to do more than I can. Patience is not one of my strong points. However, I am doing better.
My mind is good, my planning is excellent, my determination is strong and I have been able to plan, promote, and
prepare for our 17th BSU Reunion in September -- next month really. I am amused sometimes how often you write, or
call and ask again and again the date, the place, the time, etc. I just smile and realize that we are all getting
older, more forgetful, less active, and indeed slower. (I count myself in this last group). WELL, here it is again.
The Reunion is September 24,25, 2009. We will be meeting in Carbondale (where it all started). We will meet Thursday
night at the Baptist Student Center on the corner of Mill and Forest. We will meet at 5:30 pm for a supper meeting.
I have chosen to use Quiz'nos as our caterer. It is cheaper and faster than we can prepare it. It is free to all of
you, too. Our Thursday night program will be there.. Thursday night is our fun, fellowship and entertainment night.
We have fun!! You will enjoy!! Then Friday morning we will meet at the University Baptist Church on Oakland Avenue
for our Friday worship program. We will begin at 8:30 A.M. with rolls, coffee, etc. in the PINK room. It is on the
second floor. Individual pictures will be taken there, too. Our worship service will start at 10:45 AM in the
auditorium. A large group picture will be taken at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The noon meal will be served at
12:30 PM. Following lunch, the one and only, Nate Adams, will be our quest speaker. We are honored to have Nate with
us again this year. Last month I shared with you the news that this will be my last year as your President. Due to my
age, my health, my dependence on others to do the work, has lead me to think I should step down as your President. I
have enjoyed doing this so very much. However, I must step aside and let someone else do this job. I will plan on
keeping the web site active, if you will feed me news, etc. The web site has 244 mailing addresses, telephone numbers,
and 150+ email addresses. On the web site you can find Anniversary dates, deceased dates, maiden names, reunion pictures
(7 years) vintage pictures and even more. Use it as often as you need to. I created it for YOU. That address is:
