January 2007 News Happy New Year!
Dear BSU Friends,
The calendar says it is now 2007. How can that be? I did not get done all of the things I wanted to do in 2006. And, I think I speak for many of you as well!! Well, I guess I will have to admit -- the older I get the faster time flies. I promised myself not to waste a minute of this new year. So I must write this January news now.
Early in December I sent 233 Christmas letters to those BSU members who are on our BSU membership roll. If you did not hear from me, it means you are not on the roll. The addresses were taken from the BSU web site (www.bsu-siu.com) under Directory (click) Let me know if you did not hear from me or if you want to be placed on the mailing list. I send out two letters a year -- December and May. This is done primarily because of those who do not have an email address.
We have had a wonderful year (2006). Our BSU Reunion in Carbondale was a huge success. The "New Chapel Singers" - under the direction of Rayford Raby -- was received with "gusto". We had over 40 to respond. We plan to feature the "The New Chapel Singers" again in 2007 when we meet in Herrin in September. Early in the year I plan to send each singer a copy of the CD that was made at the BSU Reunion. Watch for it during the early part of January.
Now, a bit of news:
- Bob and Barbara Ross have gone to FT Meyers Florida for the winter
- Betty Walker and Rinnie Spencer are in Arizona
- Harold and Evelyn Spencer are in Texas
- Ray and Mildred Odle have completely retired (well almost) and in May moved into their retirement home. Gee, they sound happy
- Phil and Lotella Cole and Gerald and Sue Glasco --both couples-- celebrated their 50Th wedding anniversary in June. The Coles' attended 5 reunions this past summer -- Did they attend the BSU Reunion??-Of course they did
- Bob and Suzi Stucky are in the states for Christmas and plan to return to Indonesia in Jan for 6 months
- Don and Sarah Bethel, Frank and Dorothy Geriche, and Ralph and Betty Turnbull all have new email addresses. Click Here for the Directory and I have added the name and address of Kris White to our email address list.
I received many Christmas cards from you all. I appreciate your sharing those Christmas letters with me. I read them all. Gee, I learned so much!! I will start working on our BSU Reunion in detail very soon. Several items have already been done. I do hope you will be able to attend. We will meet in Herrin on Sept. 27-28 and Our theme will be Harvest Days. Our speaker is a surprise. You will enjoy!! I make good plans!!!
Write me if you need help. Please remember to use my helengalloway@sbcglobal.net email address. I will drop Juno soon.
In Christian Love
Your BSU President
