July 2011
July is here!! June has gone. So has the hot, hot, weather. At least we have been told that July will be a bit cooler. I am not sure what "a bit"
means, but I am looking forward to a cooler month. I have season tickets for the Muny Opera in St Louis. July is the big month for the Muny.
I love the Muny (no home day games for the Cardinals in July). And, too I have July 9Th birthday to celebrate. I will not mention my age, but the
date is 1922. I am so grateful for my health. I still drive (A Honda Fit Red Sports car) eat out most of the time and look forward to attending my
church as often as possible. Our Search Committee is seeking out a new pastor for our church. I miss Bro Jim but he is happy in his new
responsibilities at the Anderson Hospital. I also enjoy writing this monthly news article for my "old" BSU friends. Now, I heard from 12 of you
last month. I am always glad to hear from you. Isn't it wonderful that after all of these years our friendship has remained strong. This month I heard
from Pat Bellinger. (Now, I knew Pat when it was still Hooppaw living in Carbondale). As you all know she and her husband served for many
years on the mission field in Liberia.) Pat asked me if I knew that George Madison had died. Well, I had never heard of a George Madison.
"He had been in Carbondale in the early 50's," she said. I was really upset about this. I thought I knew all of our BSU members. So, I face-booked
her and told her this. Well, he had been one of our Missionaries--graduated from New Orleans Seminary.- Pat thinks he was a BSU member. So, I
will register him on our deceased list!!! On July 9th I will be older and wiser. Yes I will be 89 on my way to 100. (Don't touch that delete button --

HERE ARE MY JULY NEWS ITEMS
- Hi Helen, We have a new email address. It is: zyxbob@gmail.com Bob & Barbara Ross (This has been taken care of)
- I was asked the following question -- Does anyone know Dr. Robert J and Marilyn Scarborough Parks from the class of 1957?
- Barbara Highsmith responded: Yes, I worked at the Baptist Foundation cafeteria with him and he was Harlan's Dad's Doctor. We see him
once in a while when we go back to Mt. Vernon. Will try to get in touch with him. I also heard from Mrs Curt Scarborough. Can anyone find an
address for them?!!
- A note from Sharon Handling Reynolds:
Helen, I don't know much about Bob and Marilyn Parks now, but I do know they were at SIU at some time between 1956 and 1960 when I was
there. She was a quiet, sweet girl, and I think they married before she finished school??? When we moved to Fairfield in the early '90s, Dr. Bob
had a practice there. I think?? He is retired - his sign in front of the office was gone the last time we were in Mt. Vernon. This isn't much but may
confirm about what years they were there. Sharon Handling Reynolds
- Jim Cox wrote -- "Helen, you rascal. Were you teaching in J.C. when I was on Ch. 3, the Harrisburg TV station from 1961 to '74? When I
was the nighttime janitor at the Baptist building, there was no way I could have dreamed of the amazing, challenging and rewarding 50-year career
I would have in broadcasting and show business...and LIFE! And did you know that Bob and Juanita Walker and the rest of his family got this
skinny kid from J.C. jump-started? (What a ride it has been!)" Helen's response "I have no idea why he called me a Rascal--ain't so!!"
- June 17 - I thought you would want to know that Phronsie Quinn was taken by EMS to Baptist East Hospital in Louisville yesterday (June 16)
morning with congestive heart failure. My son-in-law is her pastor so I should have updates. Will let you know how things go. Pray for her as I
know you will.
- I think that Rosie Robinson sent out the BSU Reunion registration form this week. Please return it as soon as possible. I understand that
wonderful plans are being made for the Annual BSU Reunion in September.
- George Casey is working on the history of the Baptist Foundation. It is very interesting . I think he plans to share it with you at the Reunion.
- A NOTE FROM BETTY COX --- Helen, I am 83 years old and will soon be as old as Don Dillow who had his 84th birthday earlier this year.
We are in contact often and he and Helen Ruth live about 35 miles from me. I still mow about 6 acres and wake up without a pain in the world. I
thank God every day for good health and the ability to live alone in the place where I have lived now for 39 years. I would like to invite anyone
who knows me to come visit me. I have a big house and three bedrooms -- two of which could be used by my visitors. My sons keep in touch
with me (Scott lives only about 25 miles away) every week and they are glad that I still like to live alone. But they won't let me drive by myself to
Illinois to the BSU reunion. I'll try to find a way this year, because I would love to see several of my old BSU buddies. I am not on Facebook, but
may soon dare to try it. Keep in touch. I read all of your letters. Betty Bettis Cox
- Over the Memorial holiday, I visited Bro Dale Clemens' grave site. His stone is beautiful. On the back side are the words --
"Well done thou good and faithful servant." It brought tears to my eyes.
Love to you all,
Your BSU President, Emeritus
Helen Galloway
This was sent to me by a friend,
I felt this was timely! The age/year calculation is very cool, and bizarre.

This year, July has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens
once every 823 years. This is called Money Bags. So, forward this to
your friends and money will arrive within 4 days. Based on Chinese
Feng Shui. The one who does not forward.....will be without money.
Kind of interesting - read on!!!
This year we're going to experience four unusual dates.
1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11 and that's not all...
Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born - now add
the age you will be this year,
The results will be 111 for everyone in whole world. This is the year of
the Money!!!
The proverb goes that if you send this to eight good friends money will
appear in next four days as it is explained in Chinese FENGSHUI.
Its a mystery, but its worth a try. good luck.
