June 2006 News

Dear BSU Members and Friends,

May has come and gone... June is "bursting out all over." Southern Illinois is beautiful in the month of June. Many of you will remember how beautiful it is during this time. God is great -- God is good -- and we thank Him for the beautiful month of June.

During the month of May I made a trip to Carbondale IL. to meet with a special committee from the Walnut Street Baptist Church, appointed to help me with the 14th Annual BSU Reunion. We are in good hands!! During the meeting we selected a Caterer for the Friday noon luncheon, selected several motels that you might be interested in, suggested decorations for the fellowship hall in keeping with our Reunion themem Music, Music, Music, planned the Thursday night supper meeting at 5:30 pm, made arrangements for seating of the "New Chapel Singers" (40+), made parking arrangements, looked for 14 tables for banquet meal, etc, etc, etc. I have contacted Gerald Glasco (our new secretary and treasurer). I told him what to do!! I have him all straightened out!! I may need Sue to help me with Gerald. Sue can remember when she had to do what I told her!!! Rayford Raby has selected the music for the Friday after lunch concert -- Jim and Rosie Robinson will be leading all of our group singing and provide special music -- Bill and Irma Richardson will be our photographers (Ind. and Group pictures) also sing with NCS -- Helen Ruth Dillow will play the piano. Now, surely you didn't think the BSU Reunions just happened. We are working for you!!

Now, during the month the following news items were made:

We added two new BSU members to our directory. We added Jane Wasson Hancock and Sandra Crenshaw Edwards.
We added the address of Don Kelley.
During the month we reported to you the death of Bernard Williams -- one of our older BSU members -- and the death of Betty Dunn's husband James Dunn.
Several corrections, suggested by you, were made to the Directory.
Sally Horton sent me a picture taken at the Illinois Baptist Student Union Building at the BSU State Convention November 2-4 1956. It is on the web site www.bsu-siu.com under Vintage pictures. The names are there too. Enjoy!! I recognized a few BSU Members, i.e Harlan, Darrel and Verona Highsmith, Bill and Margaret Edison, Wendell Garrison, Les Snyder, Becky Arnett, Rosie Barrow Robinson, Bob Barrow, Ginger and Gene Wells, Sally Horton, Marta Richardson Ebbs, Susie Grammar Tebow, and others.

Several of our members are on the "puny" list. (I am not making light of illnesses-just trying to make you smile) These dear friends are in our thoughts and concerns daily. Our love and prayers go out to:

Jane Sims- and others.

Our sincere condolences go to Jerry, Helen, Mrs. Bernard Williams and Betty Dunn. The Dunn's lived in Pinckneyville. B. Williams lived in Hannibal Mo.

Now these suggestions: Keep me informed concerning news of our BSU members--continue to make constructive criticisms about the BSU web site-- Be patient with me in making corrections (I depend on others too) and finally plan to attend the 14th Annual BSU Reunion Sept 28-29 in Carbondale (WSBC).
