October 2011

I can hardly believe it is October. I am not ready for it. I am still enjoying September. What a wonderful delightful month it was. After a very hot July and August, what a delight to have the beautiful cool weather we had in September. Fall is such a delightful time of the year. And, I will enjoy October very much. So I welcome you October. Come in and stay 31 days with me. There are loads of things for us to do. We can rake leaves, replant trees, gather in the harvest, enjoy Halloween and hayrides, watch the beautiful Fall sunsets and prepare our hearts for Thanksgiving and November. My-- My how time does fly. I am tired just thinking about it. As I remember, thinking always did tire me out. Sooo goodbye September and hello again October. Help me welcome my BSU friends. Here are my news items--enjoy and respond if you care to.

  4. A note from Terry Johnson TJOHNSON@wakemed.org

  5. Bob and Evelyn Mandrell are fine after the NC hurricane. They still reside in Knightdale, NC. Our home did not have any damage, but our yard was watered well!

  6. A note from Frank Gerliche ... To my family and friends. I’m proud to be another one of those imperfect yet prayerful, hopeful Christians – an old fashioned flag-waving, Bible-reading, sentimental American who still gets weepy over the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. Whatever your “political” leanings, our nation’s leaders ALL need our prayers. Our nation’s citizens ALL need our prayers. I hope you each will continually pray for our nation; encourage your family to pray for our nation. Prayer does make a difference. I know your heart will be stirred to join those who are not ashamed to praise God for His guidance and His grace upon our nation.

  7. Dear Helen,

I haven't received anything about the reunion yet and just wondered if it was still in the planning stage? Since my class reunion is being held in Anna-Jonesboro on the weekend, I will be in the area and thought I might be able to spend some time at the BSU Reunion, as well. Do you have a schedule? (Helen says: I answered this.) ~Margie Vines Oldehoeft

  8. Sam White writes a note about his friend------. A former BSU member Sam White My friend, Jim Prowell, went to be with the Lord Saturday Sept.2. So glad my son and I got to pray for him Friday and let him know we cared for him. He will be missed by his family, by all the internationals that he loved and touched at the Baptist Collegiate Ministries, by his church family, and others who were touched by his friendly, joking, loving manner. He is with the LORD. Thanks my friend for touching me with God (I will add his name to our deceased list on the website.)Helen Galloway writes: Sam, was Jim a BSU member from the 40,50,and 60's?--Sam White Yes, he would have been. He was active in the BSC Boosters Club and was 78, I believe. Funeral was at Craine Funeral Home, Maple Grove, between Murphy and C'dale.

  10. Notes from Agnes Davis(Taken from Facebook)

#1John is doing some better this a.m. The doctor is now giving him meds for nerve pain, 2 different kinds and finally it looks like they are helping him as of this a.m. One of his therapists said that maybe it was an irritated nerve causing all of his bad pain, so we told the doctor that, and hopefully we are on the right track now! Praise the Lord! Thanks for all your prayers, we sure do appreciate them.

#2 Some days John has really good days, then yesterday and today, he's been in bad pain again, no reason to it. Good Lord willing, we want to go to IL next Thurs. & Fri. to our Baptist Student Union, reunion at SIU. The theme is the fifties, does anyone have a poodle skirt, size 8-10 that would be willing to loan to me and John needs a white sport coat, size 44Long. Thanks for considering.

    Enjoy this story:

A man was driving around the back woods of Montana, and saw a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale".

He knocked on the door, and the owner appeared, telling him the dog is in the backyard. The man walked into the backyard, and saw a nice-looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

"You talk?" he asked. "Yep," the Lab replied. After the man recovered from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he said "So, what's your story. The Lab looked up and said, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping."

"I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running "But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger, so I decided to settle down signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies,..... and now I'm just retired." The man was amazed. He returned to the owner, and asked what he wanted for the dog. "Ten dollars," the owner replied. "Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?" "Because he's a liar. He's never been out of the yard. (COPIED)
