HERE ARE MY NEWS ITEMS FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER
It is September 2004 and the BSU reunion is taking shape even as I write. I met with Mildred Odle and Aline and Bud Miffling this week and we made final plans for the 12th annual BSU reunion. Our theme is Back to School - Back to Carbondale. Let me share these plans with you. We are planning three sessions. Thursday Night September 23 we will meet in the Old Baptist Foundation Building around 6:00 pm for coffee, cookies, fellowship, tall tales, and much much more!! If you need motel reservations for Thursday night, call Super Eight in Carbondale. That number is 618-457-8822. Mildred has reserved 10 or more rooms for BSU friends. She has arranged for a special rate for us. Be sure and tell them that you are with the BSU reunion group. As of August 26th there were still reservations available. On this web site (under Maps) you will find a map showing you where to park for the Old Baptist Foundation. I will also send each e-mail address a copy of the map by way of attachment. Check your e-mail often for news updates about the reunion. On Thursday night you will meet Jonathon and Tara Davis from Student Ministries for the Carbondale campus.. Let's ask them lots of questions about the work on the SIU campus in year 2004. We might even tell them how to have a good BSU program.
Friday Morning September 24 We will be meeting at the Old Baptist Foundation Building. However you are to meet at the University Baptist Church on Oakland Ave. around 8:AM and ride the bus to the OBFB Parking will be a problem on Friday morning so we have made arrangements for you to ride the bus to the Baptist Foundation This is very important. --read instruction carefully. Parking on Thursday night will not be a problem but it will be on Friday. Students will be everywhere. You need to ride the bus to the Friday morning session--It will leave the UBC parking lot at 8 am. Understand????.
Our session on Friday morning will start at 8:30AM with coffee, cookies,etc. It will be very informal. You may dress informally as well. Mildred said she was going to wear a SIU shirt--that sounds appropriate to me!!!.Individual pictures will be taken during this hour 9-10 am.. Bill Richardson will be taking the pictures. A group picture on the steps of the OBF is being planned. Friday morning session will be loosely structured--but I do have a few surprises up my sleeve. We will leave the Foundation around 11:30 by bus to go to the University Baptist Church for the noon meal and a planned program
Our session for Friday Noon 12:30 PM will be held at the University Baptist Church. A catered dinner is planned Singing, special music, a short business meeting and then Jim Williams will speak to us. I have ask him to brag on us We deserve to be honored and praised!! You all know Jim Williams. His dad, Otho Williams, served in the Baptist State Office for a number of years and then later served as director of our Baptist Children's Home in Carmi..Jim is no stranger to us. You will enjoy hearing him but most of all you will be glad you came to the 12th Annual BSU Reunion for 2004 See you soon in Carbondale. Back to School--Back to Carbondale is our theme.
